I noticed one of the many subpar Tumblr theme aggregators linking to my permalink page styling tip today, and they’d spelled it “Permaling”, incorrectly — and instead of editing it when I mentioned it, they simply deleted the post. And the most recent post states that the guy is trying to sell the site off.

And that’s the most popular theme aggregator at the moment. Says a lot, does it not?

Well, fear not. I am here to save the day. I am pleased to announce Tumblr Themes. It may not be better than the other options just yet (there are only about 40 themes listed right now, but I’m adding as many as I can find), but it will be. This is why:

  • A Tumblr theme directory should really be powered by Tumblr, don’t you think?
  • It offers the ability to filter the themes by the number of columns, the colours they use, whether it’s a wide or narrow theme, and the creator. You’re not limited to just click a “previous entries” until you find something passable.
  • This is awesome.

So, not perfect yet. But a start. The biggest hurdle is filling it with everyone’s themes. You guys can help with that though. If you know of a theme, or have made one, that isn’t currently listed, leave a link in this reblog, or send an e-mail, and it will be added ASAP. I’d also like to invite anybody that wants to to help maintain this and add themes — it’s set up as a group blog, so it can be maintained by many people. If you want to help, same applies.

As soon as I can, I’ll figure out a way that makes anyone able to submit a theme. (Tumblr Pro features will enable this, but obviously, they’re not available to most people just yet.)
