I’ve always turned a blind eye to the MySpace hate that floods the web on a daily basis. Partly because I don’t even use it, so what do I care, and partly because there’s a lot of great music on there. But tonight, I tried to sign up for an account, so that I could contact bands (Lilofee prompted this) to ask if they’d mind us putting some of their music on Tuneage, and, quite simply: it did not fucking work.
I filled in their sign-up form — every field, double-checked all the info, no problem as far as I could see — pressed submit, and was told I was “ineligible” for an account. No explanation, no nothing, just a big red box saying I’m ineligible.
That is absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous. Fuck you, MySpace. I am totally on board with everyone else now.
Also, as far as music goes, MySpace needs to make it possible to contact people without being a member. Particularly if their sign-up forms don’t work. I realise there are security concerns there, but 99% of people with e-mail addresses can be contacted independently of any web service and have not yet been solicited for sex by a 30-year-old man in sweatpants. I’m sure MySpace could work something out, they seem like competent guys.
